Abstract

Marked by metamorphosis, brilliance, and baroque (dis)illusion, Bogdan Suceavă's poem-novel (de)constructs, from the dual perspective of a writer-mathematician and with his dual tools, the image of 17th-century Europe as a succession of bloody battles fought in defence of (hypothetical) religious truths, and, simultaneously, as a succession of genius insights by thinkers through whom humanity, in its entirety, has progressed. A poetic tribute to the power of the human mind to decipher the mysteries of universal harmony, the poem is also a novel about the disasters that humanity creates with the same stubbornness with which it was able to build cathedrals, theorems, and pieces of musical genius.
