Parnasianismul infuzat de romantism la Théophile Gautier
Abstract
The purpose of this article is the aesthetic, literary and stylistic analyze of Théophile Gautier's poems of maturity, but also its evolution towards the Parnassian movement whose fervent supporter and theoretician becomes. In this second stage of his creation, Gautier embarks on the adventure of formal perfection, the plasticization of poetry and the quest for absolute beauty, in his famous Émaux et Camées (Enamels and Cameos), as demanded by the Parnassian doctrine, theorized by himself together with Leconte de Lisle. The surprise comes, however, when we analyze his poems from this stage and we observe his total and complete acceptation of this current that he almost has invented. Despite his aspirations towards formal perfection, Gautier remains, however, within the range of the Romanticism and its „tyrannical” thematic universe (fascination for the ancient ruins, unstoppable running of time, etc.), fantasy and creative force, so we can characterize this absolutely special poet as a traitor of Romanticism, but at the same time the father of a special type of Parnassian movement, infused with the "aperceptive" Romanticism of his time.
