Abstract

The objective of this article is that, starting from the existing research papers in the specialized literature, to present, from a critical perspective, the beginnings of the Romanian novel, also known some under other names, such as: novel, romance, novel, novelist writings. The premises of the publication of the Romanian novel were created with the help of foreign novels, present in the form of translations or in the original, which, on the one hand stimulated the public interest in this literary genre, and on the other hand modeled the artistic technique of the Romanian writers, interested in completing literature, with the absent genres. In the middle of the 19th century, the Romanian novel appeared. The moment is appreciated differently by the critics: late, if we refer to the European literatures, but also in time, if we refer to the particularities of the establishment of the modern Romanian literature, which until then made an effort to "develop the linguistic tool" and "experiment fiction-type creation”. [Paul Cornea] The flowering period of this genre led to the appearance of several categories of novels, such as: outlaw, moral, social, rural, historical and erotic.
