Unitatea şi individualitatea limbii române
Abstract
: The paper focuses on some fundamental aspects defining the Romanic identity of the Romanian language.
Being early isolated from the rest of the Romance world, and in close contact with the Balkan languages, Romanian proved its vitality and preserved the original Latin features, sometimes more than the Western Romance languages. The Romanic character of Romanian is present throughout its structure, at each and every level, organized and articulated on a solid Latin basis. The entire history of the Romanian language is marked by a strong sense of unity, which is in close connection with the continuity of the Latin character. We may even argue that the history of the Romanian language is nothing but the history of Latin itself, as it was continuously spoken in the Eastern part of the Roman Empire, namely in the Carpatho- Danubian space.
