The Explanatory Dictionary of the Romanian Language is the lexicographic work best
known and most consulted by the Romanian public since its publication until today. The next edition of the dictionary should not be an exhaustive work (that would be impossible), but should reflect - wisely and decently - the language use, its structure and development prospects. Thus, it needs to remain (or become) a dictionary for people who want to be well informed and educated, for true language lovers who want to better understand and support the Romanian language.
Cristian MOROIANU ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8951 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 08:47:55 +0300 RECENT PAGES IN LITERARY GEOGRAPHY: https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8952
Defining Ukrainian identity as a European one has become the stake of the
political and military struggle between Russia and Ukraine. In fact, the author's creation
represents, undoubtedly, the fruit of some spiritual experiences that have marked his existential path decisively, and the relation between Man and God (earthly speaking, but also from the perspective of eternity) remains a constant topic of such a work dedicated to the amazing feeling of His unique love, in connection with which everything is situated, not once, on the coordinates of being wordless. It is
about a special type of "expressing", which offers the opportunity to live in an authentic spiritual discipline (in prayer also, as a special way to communicate with Divinity and to ascend towards the mystic knowledge path), it being a substitute (and suppressing) any other form of confession through ordinary words.
Florina Maria BĂCILĂ ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8953 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 09:08:25 +0300 AND OFF WE GO! THE NOUN CORABIE ‘CARAVEL’ AND ITS LEXICAL FAMILY IN OLD ROMANIAN https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8954
In our study, we propose to investigate the ways in which Teodor Corbea, a Transylvanian scholar of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, equates in Romanian the Latin words for certain boats and related objects or activities r with the word corabie ‘caravel’ and its derivatives in his dictionary, Dictiones latinae cum valahica interpretatione, In addition to the wealth of encyclopaedic information, it also contains and highlights its importance for the ancient Romanian culture and medieval lexicography. The dictionary helps us understand the solutions the scholar resorted to in order to better translate the previously specified words. The language analysis of is essentially lexical, which does not exclude other interpretative perspectives (grammatical, for example). To support our investigative approach, we initially made an inventory of the occurrences of the noun, which was specified in the title and its derivatives that appear in the columns of the dictionary. Subsequently, we interpreted them with the aim of illustrating specific structural and lexical-semantic features, and highlighting the lexical richness of the Romanian
language, despite the fact that Romanian maritime terminology was in its early dawn.
Adrian CHIRCU ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8954 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 09:49:07 +0300 NARRATIVE – LYRICS TEXTUAL STRUCTURES IN IONEL TEODOREANU’ S WRITINGS https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8955
The main objective of this article is to identify the narrative-lyrical textual structures in Ionel Teodoreanu’s writings in order to give an insight of the extent and variety of the manifestations and implementations of narrative elements in Ionel Teodoreanu's texts. Our objective was to identify and describe as many
manifestations as possible of the use of narrative-lyrical structures and techniques in his writings in order to obtain data that lead to generalization and theorization about the adaptation of narratological concepts and methods used in the narrative lyrical analysis. We make use of the review of specialized literature of literary criticism, as well as the narrative-lyrical textual analysis in the novel „La Medeleni”.
Our conclusions reveal a large corpus that needs to be analyzed, summarizing the narrative-lyrical structures identified in Ionel Teodoreanu’s writings, the concepts and representations from the scenes of the novel „La Medeleni”.
Claudia-Cristina DOLEA-PANAITE ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8955 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 09:54:40 +0300 The ROLE OF THE STYLISTIC ELEMENTS IN CONDOTIERA BY C.V. GHEORGHIU https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8956
The literary work created by Constantin Virgil Gheorghiu during his Parisian exile places the spiritual values of the Romanian people at the forefront, and promotes the idea that the 20th century is establishing the ethics of the “new man”. The novel La Condottiera (Plon, 1967) denounces totalitarianism and all the ideological mechanisms founded in Romania after August 23rd 1944, and turns into
a profound meditation on the drama of the “citizen” annihilated by Soviet terror. The fundamental aim of our study is to identify the stylistic marks that enrich this novelistic text. We will analyze the recurrence of one or more stylistic devices employed in the narrative discourse and/or in the characterization of characters, and highlight the importance of the stylistic facts identified and their function. We will also look at the role of the mechanisms that operate analogies, restrictions, enlargements and substitutions in this text (through comparison, epithet, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, symbol, personification etc.). Decoding the message that the bookish universe of La Condottiera conveys through these elements, can bring out a new reading, a new interpretation, an inventory of unexpected meanings of the
novel in question.
Mirela DRĂGOI ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8956 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 10:00:29 +0300 LITERARY ASPECTS REFLECTED IN THE „FREE ROMANIA” JOURNAL (1976) https://gup.ugal.ro/ugaljournals/index.php/lcls/article/view/8957
„România liberă” (Daily paper of the National Council of the Socialist Unity Front), 1976, Year XXXIV lists, among other things, the various interventions of renowned cultural personalities. Starting from the aspects that investigate the
registers of communication, we felt it necessary to bring into discussion the
pragmatic discursive mechanisms, accommodating the theoretical references to
some examples of text, as much as the size of the work allows us. Indeed, we
addressed the concept of ”discursive space" and the discursive operations (or
communicative functions) that can be carried out within them, supporting them also
with examples of verbal acts emitted by different speakers, but bringing them in the foreground especially Vica Delcă and Ivona, since they are the conversational engine
of the novel. They recount, evoke and give free rein to the flow of involuntary
memory, commenting, appreciating, characterizing the present, but at the same time
reviving people, places, moments and experiences from a past lived or reconfigured
from memories, documents, diaries, objects or simply 'drawn' by their own
imagination. Starting from the postulate that language is first and foremost a social institution, closely following the manifestations and developments of the community, having an eminently pragmatic role of communication and social cohesion, our toponymic study aims to examine the onomastic avatars of a street in the city of Galati that has had a particular historical destiny, a destiny reflected in the process of naming it - J.Boyle Street, currently an "extension" of Portului Street from the intersection with
Navelor Street the former headquarters of the Fish Research Institute. The characters have the ability to shape their own
world due to the intersection of the three periods that marked the Romanian space,
such as the interwar, communist and post-communist periods. Fragmentary, the text
not only superimposes variously coloured voices, but two different epochs, the
bourgeoisie represented by the intellectuals of the twentieth century and the world in full swing due to the establishment of socialism-communism. These changes will
be reflected at the level of the individual due to fragments of memory caused by the
malicious and nostalgic commentary of female presences. They are surviving, with
personal dramas, in an attempt to keep the family together despite their social status
and life skills.
