Abstract

Towards the middle of the IX-th century appears a consolidation of the movement in favour of the spiritual power, especially in the context of the quasi-universal disorder. The power of the Bishop of Rome consolidates as superior not only in respect to the power of other Bishops but also in rrespect to that of Kings and the Emperor himself.
