Abstract
In this paper I investigate the possibility of applying the concept of “scientific revolution” to the changes in the seventeenth-century natural philosophy. Various meanings of this concept are analyzed, as well as some historical cases. Such cases are Descartes’ natural philosophy, Newton’s natural philosophy and seventeenth century aristotelian reaction to the “new science”. The characterization of the changes of the seventeenth century natural philosophy as a “scientific revolution” can be reduced to the following problem: episodes from the history of science should be analyzed in context or should be seen from our actual scientific point of view?
