Abstract

This paper wants to present an educational and cultural private institution, Sancta Maria Institute, Brăila subsidiary, and his historic development. Founded by Maria Ward grief, an Englishwoman borned in a noble family in the kingdom, against Catholics persecution in England, Institutum Beatae Mariae Virginis, will gain more and more followers. Will be founded subsidiaries in whole Europe, even in Romania at Bucharest, Brăila, Craiova etc. By mother Kuningude initiative, in 1885, will be founded Sancta Maria Institute-Brăila subsidiary. The Institute’s staff preoccupied themselves with the education of future housewifes and support for the poor and orphans, being organized various charity activities.
