The Noble Lorraine Charles de Joppecourt and the History of the Principality of Moldavia in the Second Decade of the 17th Century
Abstract
This essay represents an erudite hermeneutics on the historical testimony of Charles de Joppecourt (XVIIth century) concerning the art of warfare and politics in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the region of the Balkans. The informations treasured by the French aristocrat reveal in the same time the complexity of the political context surrounding the Romanian countries at the beginning of the XVIIth century, as they had to deal concomitantly with the Turkish imperialism and the historical traumas announcing the Thirty Years War in Europe.
