Notes on Some Frequently Used Words of German Origin from the XVIIth Century up to the Present Day
Abstract
There were two periods of Germanic influence on the Romanian language. The first period, the old one, coincides with the time of contact with the various migrating Germanic tribes that crossed the territory of our country from the 2nd-3rd centuries until 566. The second period began in the Middle Ages, thanks to direct contact with the German populations settled in our country. The German influence was felt in three compact regions: Transylvania, Banat and Bukovina. Along with Transylvania's transition from Turkish influence to that of the Habsburg Empire, the number of German speakers increased. The impact of German influence on Romanian dialects can be seen above all in the area of material life.
