Abstract

Comparative stereotypical expressions represent a particular category
among the phraseological units of a language. In French linguistics, they have
acquired many names: intensive clichÈ (Schapira 1999: 27), stereotyped intensive
sequences (Szende 1999: 68) or hyperbolic comparisons (Tamba-Mecz 1979: 16). In
our analysis, we plan to present two types of syntactic structures, very common in
spoken language, especially in the colloquial register, in French as well as in
Romanian, of the adjective + CE (comparing element) + compared element and verb
+ CE (comparing element) + compared element type, which correspond at the
onomasiological level to the expression of human defects and states of mind.
