”DIMINEȚILE PIERDUTE” OF GABRIELA ADAMEȘTEAN’S CHARACTERS

Abstract

This article aims at analysing the protagonists of the novel The Lost
Mornings, one of the most important and recognized novels, despite being written
during the communist period. The characters have the ability to shape their own
world due to the intersection of the three periods that marked the Romanian space,
such as the interwar, communist and post-communist periods. Fragmentary, the text
not only superimposes variously coloured voices, but two different epochs, the
bourgeoisie represented by the intellectuals of the twentieth century and the world in full swing due to the establishment of socialism-communism. These changes will
be reflected at the level of the individual due to fragments of memory caused by the
malicious and nostalgic commentary of female presences. They are surviving, with
personal dramas, in an attempt to keep the family together despite their social status
and life skills. This work is aimed at audiences passionate about quality literature,
thanks to the gallery of characters who amaze through diversity and shock through
monstrosity. The characters cannot be associated with the author, even if,
apparently, there would be this connection. The uniqueness of Vica's character is
due to the style, language, behavior and vision, having something in common with
Caragiale's heroes. The author creates a contrast in the different way Vica speaks.
The narrative techniques associated with the inner monologue but the outer
discourse shed light on unique portraits or folders of existence of the characters.
