Abstract

The society of the 21st century with its fast development has given social life an
intercultural character. Based on this reality, the common language and the specialized one have to adapt learning to plurilingualism. Specialized language takes different terms from foreign languages to cope with the wave of concepts imposed by social reality. Social work was halted in its natural development by the communist regime. After the 1990s this discipline is forced to be aligned with Western standards. The void of denomination was filled with loans from foreign languages made directly and indirectly. Neologisms have an essential role in the evolution of terminology in this line of work. Another factor of influence on terminology is mentality. Especially in the case of this discipline, there is a tendency to find a replacement for the terms used with a negative sense. This study aims to focus on the analysis of these issues. We focus on semantic and structural analysis of terminological neologisms. At the same time we emphasize the role of Western cultural mentalities and languages in adopting and enforcing these new terms. We will show that the terminology of this discipline is subjected to a process of continuous transformation. Lexical forms and meanings are fluctuating. Neological terms are used along with others already consecrated. Simple terms appear as
synonyms of descriptive sentences. Because of this, our paper aims to be a precise terminological mirror of the impact of interculturality and plurilingualism on social work.
