Reflections On the Challenges of the European “Living Together”. The Integration of Turkey into the European Union as a Necessity

  • Pierre Chabal

Abstract

The question of whether the integration of Turkey into the Europe of the European Union would represent a challenge for the European “living together” is stimulating and useful. It is, however, better formulated for a public or media debate, which it allows to conclude with a 'no frank and massif’, for a true in-depth analysis. Other questions are moreover badly posed, such as for example: does Turkey have a vocation to enter the European Union? Conversely, a more relevant question would seem to be: Does the European Union intend to integrate Turkey considering its original geopolitical project of 1950?
