Preotul Emanuel Hogaș: slujitor fervent, dascăl de vocație și iconom harnic
Abstract
In the gallery of the ecclesiastical personalities in Galaţi of the first half of the 19-th century, priest’s face Emanoil Hogaş shines. He was born in Smulti village, in a family with a historical name and with many clergy members, Manole or Emanoil Hogaş climbed the steps of human and professional evolution through theological studies and by hard pastoral-cultural work. He was a professor at “St. Andrei” Theological Seminary in Galati, an economic adviser of the Diocese of Lower Danube and a close spiritual friend of Bishop Cosma Petrovici. He published in the church magazines of the time (“Home” and “The Herald”) countless materials with missionary and apologetic content. As a priest at “The Virgin’s Birth” Parish” and at “St. Three Hierarchs” in Galati, he was highlighted by a beautiful urban and pastoral work. In the “Year of the Shepherds of Souls” I have the joy to evoke him in the present study.
