Editor’s Note
Volume 8 of Cultural Intertexts – a Journal of Literature, Cultural Studies and Linguistics – brings together articles which result from research carried out by specialists at home and abroad. The common points of interest emerging from the authors‘ contributions are the representation of private and public selves, the politics behind the constructions of national, cultural and gender identity, as well as the more technical aspects of literary and filmic architectural design – with emphasis on experimentation, historiographic rewriting, intertextuality and the metadimension. The corpus under the lens includes a series of novels (What Maisie Knew, Rue with a Difference, American Psycho, One Flew over the Cuckoo‟s Nest, Naked Lunch, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, The Hours, The Unbearable Lightness of Being), two plays (Cathleen Ni Houlihan, Noise) and two films (The Last Peasants. Journeys, Adaptation) – proposing incursions into older and newer, American and European writing which processes intriguing contexts, bears traces of earlier texts, and addresses a contemporary readership. A cultural anthropological study on the metamorphoses of Romanian identity inside the frontiers of Europe and/or within the European Union, as well as an analysis of the paradoxical fracture and merger identifiable with modernity and postmodernity, are also part of the collection. The editors would like to thank, once more, the members of the scientific committee, for the time and effort that went into reviewing the articles submitted, and for facilitating the publication of this volume.

Editor's Note
Volume 7 of Cultural Intertexts – a Journal of Literature and Cultural Studies – includes articles by doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, presented at the fifth edition of the International Scientific Conference organized by the Doctoral Schools of "Dunărea de Jos" University of Galati (8-9 June 2017), section 6: "Cultural Spaces: Retrospective and Prospective View", subsection 6.1. "English Literature and Translation Studies" (official site: http://www.cssd-udjg.ugal.ro/). Other contributions on the various aspects related to the area investigated by this series of publications are made by specialists from the host and partner universities, as well as by independent scholars and researchers at home and abroad. The cultural intertext is examined here from multiple viewpoints (linguistic, aesthetic, philosophical, political, historical, sociological and psychological). The literary and filmic corpus selected by the authors covers a wide range of voices and genres, and is analysed in view of foregrounding issues associated with identity, hybridity, memory, trauma, authorship and adaptation. As always, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the scientific advisors for their expertise and for the dedication to the peer reviewing process.

Editor's Note
This volume of Cultural Intertexts – a Journal of Literature, Cultural Studies and Linguistics – includes articles by doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, presented at the fourth edition of the International Scientific Conference organized by the Doctoral Schools of ―Dunarea de Jos‖ University of Galati (2-3 June 2016), section 6: "Cultural Spaces: Retrospective and Prospective Views" (official site: http://www.cssd-udjg.ugal.ro/). Contributions by specialists from the host and partner universities, as well as by independent scholars and researchers, complement the collection and broaden the scope of investigation in the area of interest covered. Using illustrative samples of high and popular culture (novels, plays, memoirs, artistic and documentary films, translations, TV series, advertisements, news bulletins), the articles focus on genre crossovers and intercultural mediation, on literary and non-literary representations of history, politics, religion, society. They compare, interrogate, destabilize, transform or re-read the corpora selected, in view of highlighting textual and contextual dialogue, the constant contamination by and contaminating of the global cultural intertext. The editors express their gratitude to the members of the scientific committee, who have dedicated time and effort to reviewing the papers submitted and to making the publication of this volume possible.
