Abstract

In the current conditions, the Church is called to answer many existential questions, which Christians, more or less practitioners, ask her. It is like a dialogue between a mother and her sons, more faithful or more rebellious. The love of the Church, which is the love of Christ, seeks to respond to every spiritual need and every personal search, and desires the recovery of every man. Orthodox spirituality is such a possible answer to the great existential pursuits of man living in an increasingly secularized social context. Prayer, the spiritual life, fasting, the cultivation of virtues, the selfless and caring interpersonal relationship are values that spring from the Gospel and can serve as solutions for the man who wants to rediscover God. To the practicing Christian, Orthodox spirituality offers the chance to participate in the worship of the Church – especially in the Holy Mass, the joy of communion with the Holy Sacraments and the possibility of perfection through asceticism. The present study, the result of an exhibition at an international symposium organized by the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology of the “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galaţi, is an invitation to reflect on this topic.
