Constantin Brâncoveanu și hotarul kazalei Brăila
Abstract
A century and a half before Brâncoveanu Constantine took the power (1538), by occupying Brăila and Tighina (now Bender) the Ottomans gained full control – economical, political and military – of the Romanian Country (controlling the Lower Danube, the Bazias-Sulina sector) and of Moldavia by adding Tighina to the older dominations: Chilia and Cetatea Albă (August 1484). Every part of land gained from the Romanian or Moldavian Country meant for the Ottomans power, intimidation and new income. Abusses carried in this direction at this end of the Ottoman Empire were many and permanent, the Kaza of Brăila being constantly assaulted insistently by the Turks, but with a treacherousnesshard to overlook. This study is an evidence of Brâncoveanu Constine’s efforts to maintain the boundaries of the Romanian Land against the Ottoman pressure, through donations from Măxineni Monastery, fact for which the patriot and martyr Prince spent much during his reign on this “border” with the Ottoman Gate on the Romanian territory.
