Abstract
In the year of Saints Emperors, in Galati area, we pay homage to a personality of modern history of Romania, Costache Negri. A cultural and patriotic personality of the second half of the XIXth century, Costache Negri creates a real centre of culture and patriotism in the Manor house from Mânjina situated under the protection of Saints Constantine and Helen. Here, many meetings have taken place of the patriots who prepared the union of Moldavia with the Romanian country (1859). Today, the village bears his name and the history of Romania remembers him as a fighter for the uniting and modernizing the Principates.
