Abstract

The Holy Fathers of the Christian Church felt the spiritual value of the art revealed by God and appreciated it as an expression of sublime beauty, having as its principle the molding of man according to the archetype of eternal values. They saw in God the Artist of creation and the sanctifier of man and sought to deepen them by the most expressive means possible.
They weren’t painters, but they admired painting. They were not sculptors, but they turned to the refined forms of the raw material. They were not musicians, but they tasted the harmony of sounds. For their strength in expressing beauty, the Holy Fathers introduced in their writings references to painting, sculpture and music in order to highlight by comparison the beauty of human structure and the ultimate meaning of man who is reached through the art of the beauty of spiritual life. The purpose of this study is to study how the Holy Fathers related to painting, sculpture and music and used the vocabulary of these arts to highlight the beauty of human structure and spiritual life.
